What is Pendle (PENDLE)? How to Buy and Use It

Pendle is a decentralized finance protocol built on the Ethereum blockchain that allows users to carry out yield-management strategies. It is a yield-trading platform that supports trading, yield farming and liquidity provision of tokenized yield assets.

The platform’s features allow users to lock their interest-bearing assets, such as stablecoins or tokens, in smart contracts to earn future yield as yield tokens. Users can trade or utilize the yield tokens for various DeFi activities.

Pendle Finance enables users to get better yields via Yield Tokenization and Yield Trading. With its unique features, users can earn interest on their assets and have access to the broader crypto market.

Pendle’s Unique Features

Yield Tokenization: This is one of the protocol’s top features because it allows users to tokenize future yields from their assets. This means users can earn rewards from their assets in advance, providing them with more liquidity for other purposes.

Pendle’s smart contracts enable yield tokenization. These smart contracts create a yield token, which stands for the future yield of an asset. Users can then trade the yield token.

Liquidity Provision: Users can provide liquidity to yield markets by supplying yield tokens that earn trading fees and rewards.

Like other DeFi protocols, users can deposit their assets to provide liquidity to liquidity pools. Liquidity providers can earn returns from multiple sources, including swap fees and $PENDLE incentives.

Ecosystem Governance: Pendle’s governance token (PENDLE) allows the community to participate in the decision-making process of the protocol. Users can propose and vote on changes, upgrades, and new features.

Unlike traditional governance platforms that require huge capital, Pendle’s governance process is available to holders regardless of the amount held.

Pendle’s AMM: Pendle Finance employs an Automated Market Maker (AMM) model as the backbone of its decentralized ecosystem, introducing innovative solutions to the DeFi space.

The structure of the AMM lets users buy and sell without a middleman or centralized exchanges. Pendle’s AMM system dynamically prices yield tokens based on the interaction between supply and demand. This mathematically driven pricing mechanism can rapidly adapt to market changes.

vePendle: This is a governance token that gives users voting power. Users can earn voting power by locking their PENDLE tokens in liquidity pools. While the tokens are locked, users get vePendle tokens. The longer the tokens are staked, the more vePendle tokens the user receives. By extension, the higher the voting power.

Latest Updates

Pendle has two modes, which are Pendle Earn and Pendle Trade. Pendle Earn performs two main functions (Fixed Yield and Liquidity Provision) to provide a better UX for users.

On the other hand, Pendle Trade allows users to trade yield by buying and selling their Principal Token (PT) and Yield Token (YT).

Pendle Earn has integrated with popular crypto platforms like Coin98, Bitget Wallet and OKX Wallet.

Who Are The Founders of Pendle?

Pendle’s founders used the pseudonyms TN, Lee, GT, YK, and Vu, and Tong and Josh served as the developers. They rebranded the platform from Benchmark and officially launched it in July 2021.

Its headquarters is in South Korea, and Binance Labs, Mechanism Capital, Alliance and others actively support it. Since its launch, the platform has expanded to Arbitrum, BNB Chain and Optimism.

How is Pendle Secure?

Cross-Chain Compatibility: The team initially deployed Pendle on the Ethereum blockchain. However, the team recently launched the project on Arbitrum, BNB Chain and Optimism blockchains to address gas fee issues.

Decentralized Governance: vePendle creates new use cases for unlocking PENDLE tokens. Users that stake their tokens can receive vePendle with a maximum staking period of two years. The longer the staking period, the higher the voting power.

Multi-collateral Pools: Users can mitigate risk exposure and prevent potential losses. Pendle’s unique approach towards risk management reduces volatility faced by users in the DeFi space and keeps the ecosystem secured.

How Many PENDLE Are In Circulation?

The PENDLE token adopts a hybrid inflation model. According to the data from Coinmarketcap, there are 235,685,588 PENDLE in circulation. The maximum supply is 258k, with a TVL of $186,406,369.

Where To Buy PENDLE?

Traders can easily buy and sell PENDLE on several exchanges. Some include Kucoin, Binance, Uniswap, PancakeSwap and SushiSwap.
