Shytoshi Kusama, the pseudonymous lead developer of Shiba Inu, has revealed in a Telegram update that the much-anticipated Shibarium Beta testing phase will begin soon. According to a screenshot of the Telegram message, Kusama first said, “seriously, it’s coming,” before adding, “Beta for Shibarium is near,” referring to an Ethereum L2 scaling network for the canine-themed cryptocurrency.

KURO SHIBARMY JPN, a well-known Shiba Inu influencer, recently shared the Telegram screenshot.

Shibarium’s impending release has piqued the interest of the Shiba Inu community.

Shibarium Delay and Community Dissatisfaction

As previously reported, one of Shibarium’s development teams, Unification, announced earlier this year that beta testing for the L2 network would begin by the end of September 2022. However, things did not go as planned when Shibarium encountered a technical problem, forcing the team to postpone the project’s launch date.

Many SHIB holders believed that Shibarium’s launch was imminent after some team members shared a special countdown. Shiba Inu fans believe the countdown was for Shibarium, after Kusama previously stated that his priority was the L2 network. Many people were disappointed to learn that the countdown was for the website upgrade. Shiba Inu top developer SHIB Trophias, who is in charge of the website upgrade, revealed that the website is required for the launch of Shibarium.

“First thing is to update our main website. This is much needed and this is our first step as we march towards Shibarium’s Beta launch. The entire website will not launch all at once. Phased rollouts will happen, and we’ll try to make it as smooth as possible,” Trophias said.

In the meantime, the team has not set a specific date for Shibarium Beta testing. With the Christmas holidays approaching, Shibarium Beta testing is expected to begin early next year.
