Shiba Inu’s (SHIB) lead developer, Kaal Dhairya, has broken his silence on the sudden and controversial increase in LEASH’s total token supply. In an update on X, he revealed that the supply jumped by roughly 10% after 10,765 new tokens were created on August 11, 2025. This move shocked the community, which had long believed LEASH had a fixed and unchangeable supply.
Discovery of Rebase Pathway
For years, the project maintained that LEASH had disabled rebasing a process in which a token’s supply automatically adjusts through code. Rebasing can increase or decrease every holder’s balance, depending on market conditions.

However, Dhairya stated that on August 11, the team found a hidden “rebase pathway” in the smart contracts. This pathway, linked to preauthorized contracts, allowed supply changes without the owner’s intervention.

Dhairya called this a breach of trust, stressing that the community expected the supply to remain constant. He warned that such changes dilute value for existing holders and can negatively affect the price. Furthermore, he argued that although LEASH appears decentralized, the existence of this pathway shows that control remains centralized.
Proposed DAO Action and LEASH v2 Plan
To address the issue, Dhairya proposed that the LEASH decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) take action. He suggested holding a vote to either negotiate with the original developer or create a brand-new token contract, dubbed LEASH v2. The new version would undergo a thorough audit to guarantee that no rebase functions or hidden supply modification routes exist.

The update sparked mixed reactions among SHIB supporters. Some demanded that the DAO launch immediately, while others questioned whether the same vulnerability could affect other tokens in the SHIB ecosystem. One user even asked whether LEASH v2 could reverse the recent supply increase. As the community awaits further clarity, Shiba Inu’s marketing lead, Lucie, promised that exciting developments lie ahead for the ecosystem.
